Large Carpathian Inlaid Plate
These inlaid Carpathian carved plates are a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation. Sometimes called "encrustatio" for the "encrustation" or inlay of glass, metal and different color wood into the carved design. From the village of Kosiv in Ivano-Frankivsk, these plates are turned and hand-carved from one piece of wood by Ivan Tomashchuk and sons. Each is one-of-a-kind, signed and dated with a hook on the back for hanging on the wall. 11-12" diameter, 1-2" high, 1 lb.
