Petrykivka Art Cards
These hand painted greeting cards are blank inside, ready for your special message. In the set of six, each card is different, each is an original painting, each is signed by the artist, Ludmilla Bondarenko. These are dual purpose: send a special message to a friend using the enclosed pastel envelopes, then remind the friend that the card can be framed as an original painting! The style of painting is called "petrykivka", a traditional Ukrainian art form originating in the Poltava Oblast, town of Petrykivka in the 18th century. Subject matter is primarily flowers and birds. Similar to "tole" painting, each brush stroke blends two colors to get the distinctive shading and intricate detail that characterizes this style. Each card is 4.5" x 6".

Reverse Painting-on Glass
Reverse painting-on-glass is a uniquely difficult art. As practiced by Vladimir Marko, it requires a four step process: using oil paint, on a sheet of glass, first the fine outline of all figures and the white areas are painted. Then the larger details are done, including the gold leaf accents. Finally, the background is painted, completely covering the surface. The difficulty is that the artist cannot see what he is painting over without looking in a mirror, since the whole process is backwards. Although Marko's style is modern, all his images are from the folk art tradition. See the pysanky image section to match symbols. Each piece is signed, a unique example of this rare art form. Let us choose one for you.
